Actors are invited to perform the monologue they feel shows their acting chops to the best advantage. Be prepared to do it differently on request!!
SYNOPSIS CHOKING : Fifty five year old Paul is a married man. He has just started work on the front desk at Retreat on the Esplanade. Paul, a deeply reserved individual, works with the curious, open Tim. Between them they manage the front desk from rosters to account balances as well as dealing with difficult guests.
Paul was terrorised as a child by his military father who thought he could beat his son into manhood. He joined the army to please his father, he married Cheryl to please his mother and he fathered Aaron to please Cheryl.
He’s forgotten who he is. If he ever knew. But a clash with Aaron and the powerful events of a single evening turn his world upside down. Can he finally express the choked up suppression of years?
CHARACTERS
PAUL WINSLOW-(50’s) reserved, private, repressed.
TIM PARKER- (35-45) gay, funny, dryly ironic, fascinated by the human race
AARON WINSLOW- (16-19) Paul’s son. intelligent, lacks confidence, longing for a relationship with his father
MURRAY SMITH- (50’s) manipulative, not much of a worker, man with an eye to the main chance
