ABOUT THE PLAY:
Imagine Steel Magnolias with a modern twist—Paint Night is a heartfelt and hilarious exploration of womanhood, motherhood, and friendship. Set in a local “paint and sip” art studio, six women gather for a bachelorette celebration. As the wine flows and the brushes move, so do the conversations—revealing secrets, struggles, and the strength of female connection.
Produced by Nomad Theatre Company, a site-specific theatre in Bloomington-Normal, IL, known for immersive, community-rooted storytelling in unexpected spaces.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:
All roles are for female-identifying actors. Ages listed are character ages, not necessarily actor ages. All ethnicities encouraged to audition.
• MIRIAM (mid-50s to early 60s, any ethnicity)
A humanities professor with a grown son and daughter. She’s a woman who tries to see the bright side, but life has tested her optimism. She’s raw, intelligent, and emotionally complex.
• BREE (mid-30s to early 40s, white)
Fern’s daughter. A working mom with a stay-at-home husband and a young son. She’s juggling modern motherhood with ambition and exhaustion.
• GWEN (40s, Black)
A former business powerhouse trying to re-enter a workforce that undervalues her after raising three kids. Smart, driven, and frustrated by the shifting rules of success.
• FERN (mid-50s to early 60s, white)
Bree’s mother. She’s trying to do the right thing in a world that’s changing faster than she can keep up with. Well-meaning, but sometimes out of touch.
• LOLLY (late 20s to early 30s, any ethnicity)
Miriam’s daughter. A free spirit who’s returned from a spiritual journey abroad. She grew up in the shadow of a brother with schizophrenia and is still finding her place.
• VERA (50s to 60s, any ethnicity)
The Paint Night leader and studio owner. A straight-shooting, free-spirited woman who brings humor and heart to the group. She’s the glue of the evening.
