Set in New York’s East Village, Rent follows a group of young artists struggling to create, love, and survive under the shadow of HIV/AIDS. Winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, this modern rock opera pulses with passion, hope, and defiance. A raw, joyful celebration of life, Rent reminds us to measure our lives in love.
RENT contains explicit sexual language and references to drug use, suicide, and trauma experienced by people who were unhoused and had HIV/AIDs in the 80s and 90s in New York City. RENT features characters with specific ethnic and gender identities, expressed both directly and implicitly, which will be taken into consideration when casting those roles. The production team is committed to casting a diverse group of performers ages 18 and up. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to audition regardless of race, sex, ability, gender identity, size, and sexual orientation.
Character Gender Expression: Actors of all genders are welcomed and encouraged to submit for any role. The production team is committed to gender diversity in casting and encourages gender-nonconforming, non-binary, and/or trans performers to audition for any role.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
Sign-Up: All auditions must be scheduled through SignUp Genius. Please click on the link to sign up: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0544A4AB28A1F8C07-59773383-rent#/. After signing up, an electronic audition form will be emailed for completion prior to the audition.
Please choose and prepare two (2) song cuts from this folder: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1ztaEmBwtZxACGZd75nXnlbNi_ugxBjzi. You may choose two songs for the same character or one song each for two different characters. Those interested in the ensemble only can choose songs listed for the ensemble OR for any of the principal characters.
Note: auditioners will be considered for all roles regardless of song choice and will be given the opportunity to indicate roles they are interested in on the audition form.
CALL BACKS
Callbacks will be held by invitation only on Thursday, December 4, 2025 at 7:00 pm.
Callbacks will consist of song cuts from the show (available in this folder), as well as a dance audition.
REHEARSALS
Rehearsals will begin for the full cast on February 15, 2026. Regular rehearsals will be held 3 times a week on Sundays (afternoons and/or evenings), Mondays (7-10pm), Tuesdays (7-10pm), and/or Wednesdays (7-10pm) (see Rehearsal Calendar for specific rehearsal dates: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1DYRuZRMUAXdU3rOAJP4Vio09_Hlzp8Tn/view) at Circus Campus in Mount Airy, Philadelphia.

Sitzprobe: Sunday, April 19 (time TBD)
Tech Week: April 25, 26, 27, 28, & 29 starting at 6PM
Set Strike on Sunday, May 17 (Time TBD)

NCT CULTURE AND COMMUNITY
NCT MEMBERSHIP: All performers cast in NCT shows are required to become members of NCT including paying the membership fee of $35. Members are entitled to attend special meetings and events, vote in NCT elections, and receive a complimentary ticket. *Members will receive 1 comp ticket per show for each mainstage production*
ADDITIONAL COSTS: There may be other additional small costs to cast members, including providing your own shoes for the show. We do not anticipate additional costs being over $50 per performer.
CLEARANCES: For the safety of minors who participate in all aspects of theater, it is the policy of NCT to require all volunteers to obtain the PA Criminal Background, Child Abuse Clearances and FBI Clearances. There is a fee of $22.95 if you need to be fingerprinted. If you are cast, the Clearance Coordinator will go over the requirements in depth. If you have any questions please seek out a NCT Board Member.
