Auditions for the first show of the 2027 season, Machinal by Sophie Treadwell will be held Sunday, November 15th and Monday, November 16th at 7PM at South Church (90 Main Street, New Britain, CT). If callbacks are required they will be held Wednesday, November 18th at 7PM and the location will be announced soon.
Auditions will consist of reading sides from the script. Sides for the auditions will be available to those who want to prepare ahead of time- they will be posted two weeks before the audition (November 1st) on the shows audition page at hitw.org/auditions. Auditioners may also fill out their audition form early using this link if they would like: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfW9DQJXHKNJmRPBDd_AEUmEb-yH7kt4uTHIo3gtRquS-aDxw/viewform?usp=sharing&ouid=105444560799802582740
Roles are available for all ages, ethnicities, gender identities, and experience with acting, though please be aware the show features things some may not be comfortable with, including: drinking, intimacy, murder (off-stage, only mentioned), and execution via electric chair.
Machinal is a dramatization based on the first woman ever executed by electric chair in the USA in the 1920s. It follows the Young Woman through years of her life, tackling the concept of choice and what freedom really looks like.
The show will run from February 12th to February 27th, with a possible snow date on the 28th. All actors will also need to be available every day of tech week (February 7th-11th)
If you have any questions, please reach out to the director, Maranda Gallo, at hitw.org.
