AUDITION NOTICE for lead roles in "A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder"
AUDITION INFO
The director wishes to audition those interested in the following roles Monday, June 19 at 7pm at LTVB.
All other roles and ensemble (who play multiple roles) will be seen at regular audition dates to be held on Monday, September 18 and Tuesday, September 19 at LTVB.
REHEARSALS
Rehearsals for everyone cast begin Saturday, September 23 with a read through.
PERFORMANCES
November 17 - December 10, 2023
8pm Fridays and Saturdays
2:30pm Sundays
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
Please choose vocal selections appropriate to this style of musical. An accompanist will be provided and tracks are allowed.
Time and Place: Early 1900s, England
SYNOPSIS
When the low-born Monty Navarro finds out that he’s eighth in line for an earldom in the lofty D’Ysquith family, he figures his chances of outliving his predecessors are slight and sets off down a far more ghoulish path. Can he knock off his unsuspecting relatives without being caught and become the ninth Earl of Highhurst? And what of love? Because murder isn’t the only thing on Monty’s mind.
CHARACTERS
Montague “Monty” Navarro (Male, 30s-mid 40s)
Handsome, clever, charismatic, vulnerable and endearing.
Discovers he is in line to become the Earl of Highhurst and intends to K*ll off the family that stands in his way.
Vocal Range: Baritone, Low A to High A
Sibella Holland, (nee Hallward), (Female, late 20s-mid 30s)
The girl Monty loves.
Flirtatious, narcissistic, willful, calculating and irresistible.
A social climber, who truly loves Monty, and in the end would do anything to protect him.
Tremendous wit and high style.
Vocal Range: Character Mezzo, Low F# to High A
Phoebe D’Ysquith (Female, Early 20s-mid 30s)
Monty’s “Cousin.”
Beautiful, virtuous, forthright, romantic, comically earnest, with a backbone of steel.
She is not your typical ingénue, though. Actress must have a sense of irony and humor, in addition to a youthful innocence behind her sophistication.
Vocal range: Coloratura Soprano, Low B3-High C#6/Db6
The D’Ysquith Family (Male)
A comedic actor with a grasp of British farce.
Eight characters played by the same actor include:
-Eighth Earl of Highhurst
-A clergyman
-An elderly banker
-A country squire
-A benefactress
-A bodybuilder
-An actress
-A janitor
-Role requires physical comedy and stamina
Vocal Range: Baritone B2 to F4
All other roles will be auditioned at the regularly scheduled audition dates.
