What to Expect and Prepare:
Auditionees will sign up for a 30 minute vocal and reading audition time slot on Sunday AND attend the Monday dance audition time slot.
Vocal and Acting Audition:
For the vocal and acting audition, you will be called in one at a time into the audition room and will start with your prepared vocal audition. Max of 60 seconds. Music selections should be in a lighter pop-rock style a la The Go-Go's. Please bring sheet music in the correct key in a binder with clear markings of your audition cut. Accompanist provided.
After your vocal audition, you will then proceed to do a reading of a monologue of your choice from the show. This can be memorized or not. The staff may have you read other selections if time permits. The script is written in a faux blank verse style. While we are not looking for perfection in your reading, we want to see what you can do with it. If you are unfamiliar with how to approach blank verse, we'll provide some guides that may help:
Dance Audition - Monday, October 27 @ 6pm:
We would like to see all auditionees for the dance call. While not all roles will require a lot of dancing, we want to have a good sense of your ability to move. Please wear comfortable clothing that will not inhibit your movement (no jeans, please). Jewelry such as long earrings or necklaces should not be worn. Dance shoes such as jazz, ballet, or character shoes are preferred (tennis shoes can also be worn if needed).
Callbacks and Casting:
If you are needed for a callback, we will let you know Sunday the 26th in the evening. Callbacks will be held after the dance audition on Oct 27th. Not all roles will require a callback.
Can't make the vocal/acting and/or dance auditions?
If you are unable to make auditions but are still interested in auditioning, please contact: [email protected] so we can accommodate you.

Character Breakdown:
We will be casting 8 named characters, 6 on-stage ensemble (dance required), and 2-4 off-stage singers who will also double as swings/understudies.
Genders listed below are how the characters identify on stage; however, actors of all genders are welcome to audition for the roles they feel most comfortable portraying on stage.
Age ranges are stage age. We will consider actors outside the age range as long as they can appear the age range (with or without make-up/hair).
All characters are open to all races/ethnicities.
Due to the content of this show, all auditionees must be 18 years old at the time of auditions.
Understudies will be cast from within the ensemble and off-stage singers. There will be no guaranteed performances for understudies. Understudies will be required to be familiar with the tracks they are covering, but will be allowed to be on book if needed to cover a performance or rehearsal.
All actors, including the ensemble, require some level of intimacy with other actors. Expectations can be found below for each character. These are subject to change once rehearsal starts, but we will always work with actors on their comfort level. We will be working with an Intimacy Coordinator throughout the process.

Basilius (tenor, male, 40-50)
King of Arcadia. A sexy, good ol' boy. A hothead, but not a despot. Blindly thinks Arcadia is doing great under his masculine rule, which will be sorely tested during the course of the show. Intimacy requirements: Simulated sexual acts with Gynecia behind a backlit sheet (preferred shirtless and in undergarments).
Gynecia (mezzo, female, 40-50)
Queen of Arcadia. Sexy, wise, beautiful. Like any longstanding spouse, knows how to get her way with her husband when push comes to shove. Intimacy requirements: Simulated sexual acts with Basilius behind a backlit sheet (preferred in undergarments).
Pamela (Mezzo with strong belt, female, 20-30)
Basilius and Gynecia's older daughter. Confident and obsessed with her appearance. Known to be the most beautiful bachelorette throughout Arcadia. Intimacy requirements: Several (4+) closed mouth kisses with Mopsa.
Philoclea (Soprano, female, 20-30)
Basilius and Gynecia's younger daughter. Shy and a "good girl", she yearns to follow her heart rather than obey her father's orders. Intimacy requirements: Several (4+) closed mouth kisses with Musidorus. Musidorus also will consensually be putting the side of his face against Philoclea’s chest (clothed).
Dametas (bari-tenor, male, 40-50)
The King’s viceroy; father to Mopsa. Intimacy requirements: One (1) closed mouth kiss with Pythio.
Mopsa (mezzo with strong belt, female, 20-30)
Handmaiden to Pamela. Warm, skeptical. Growing up without a mother has made her wise beyond her years about everyone and everything, which is why she is the (sometime) narrator to the show. Intimacy requirements: Several (4+) closed mouth kisses with Pamela.
Musidorus (tenor, male, 20-30)
A young shepherd who courts after Philoclea. Intimacy requirements: Several (4+) closed mouth kisses with Philoclea. Musidorus also will consensually be putting the side of his face against Philoclea’s chest (clothed). The actor should be comfortable in just underwear for a few moments in the show. Other requirements: The actor also must cross dress as a woman for over half of the show.
Pythio (tenor or bari with falsetto, Non-binary, 30-50)
The Oracle; powerful, mysterious. Demanding. Great sense of humor--can see through everyone--they are the Oracle of Delphi, after all. Intimacy requirements: One (1) closed mouth kiss with Dametas.
6 Ensemble (various voice, various genders, various ages)
Unique, charismatic individuals to inhabit the kingdom of Arcadia. Intimacy Required: Simulated sexual acts with other ensemble members behind a backlit sheet (clothed).
2-4 off-stage singers (various voice, various genders, various ages)
Will also double as swings/understudies. Understudy roles will require intimacy as indicated above.
