AUDITION NOTICEfor THE SCHOOL FOR LIES by David Ives
Auditions for TheatreAC’s third show of the season will occur at 7PM on Friday, January 9, 2026, in the Experimental Theatre.
Auditionees will need to prepare a comedic monologue not to exceed one-minute in length of performance, and the piece should be written in the style of Molière without actually being one of his plays (as THE SCHOOL FOR LIES is a translation of Molière’s THE MISANTHROPE, and actors should never audition with a piece written by the same author—or tangentially through translation—of the production). To that end, the following is a list of Molière’s contemporaries (European comedic playwrights working in the same vein as him) that could start a search for a monologue:
• Pierre Corneille (1606–1684)
• Jean Rotrou (1609–1650)
• Paul Scarron (1610–1660)
• Thomas Corneille (1625–1709)
• Antoine Le Métel d’Ouville (1589–1655)
• Tiberio Fiorilli (1608–1694)
• Niccolò Barbieri (1576–1641)
• Pedro Calderón de la Barca (1600–1681)
• Lope de Vega (1562–1635)
• Ben Jonson (1572–1637)
• William Wycherley (1641–1716)
Cold readings of a few sides will happen after monologues are performed.
Perusal copies of The School for Lies will become available for a 24-hour checkout starting January 5, 2026, at the Experimental Theatre’s box office.
