Everyone is welcome to audition, no experience necessary. Please expect to stay thirty minutes to an hour.
Auditions are being held at The Iowa City Public Library:
Sunday, March 1: Please arrive between 1:15 pm and 3:30 pm
Monday, March 2: Please arrive between 6:15 pm and 8:00 pm
We’ll ask you to give us contact information, and to tell us about any rehearsal conflicts you might have. You’ll be reading with other actors from the sides provided at the auditions This may take thirty minutes to one hour.
The script is on reserve now at the 2nd floor Help Desk at ICPL, and is available for a 2-hour check out.
About the play:
He’s a talented Elvis impersonator, but Casey is broke, he’s just found out he and his wife are expecting a baby, and his landlord is ready to kick them out. He arrives one night at the run-down, small-town, Florida bar where he performs only to discover he’s been replaced by the owner’s cousin’s drag show. When one of the drag artists bails on opening night, Casey is drafted to fill in. Reluctant at first, he discovers he really likes it, but how can he tell his wife Jo what he's doing?
Characters:
(Note: The age ranges listed describe the ages of the characters, not the actors.)
CASEY: Male. 20s, any ethnicity. Moves like Elvis. The ability to sing and play the guitar a plus. Comfortable snogging with Jo (clothes on, but brief full-on kissing and snuggling to make the audience smile).
JO: Female. 20s, any ethnicity. Comfortable snogging with Casey (clothes on, but brief full-on kissing and snuggling to make the audience smile).
MISS TRACY MILLS: 40s – 50s, any ethnicity. Comfortable, confident drag artist who also appears in one scene out of drag as BOBBY.
REXY: 20s – 30s, any ethnicity. Diva drag artist.
JASON: 20s, any ethnicity. Casey’s long-time friend and current landlord.
EDDIE: 50s – 60s, any ethnicity. Owns the dive bar in Florida where Casey performs. Cousin of Miss Tracy Mills.
Performances:
April 23, 24, 25 at 7:30 pm and April 26 at 2 pm at The James Theatre
Rehearsals:
Rehearsals will start the week of March 8. Typical rehearsal schedule will be twelve hours per week, tailored to fit the schedule of the actors. Possibly three weeknights and one weekend afternoon. Tech week will begin one week prior to performances.
