– ABOUT THE MUSICAL –
Get ready to groove at Players by the Sea with Summer: The Donna Summer Musical! Journey through the life of Donna Summer, the girl from Boston whose heavenly voice lit up the dance floors of the world. From her roots in gospel choirs to her rise as the queen of disco, Donna’s story is one of triumph, resilience, and undeniable talent.
But Donna Summer was more than just a chart-topping sensation—she was a trailblazer who defied expectations and broke barriers, paving the way for the music divas who followed in her footsteps. Experience the highs, the struggles, and the unstoppable spirit of a woman who changed the sound of an era and left an indelible mark on the music industry.
Step into Donna's electrifying universe and feel the rhythm, the passion, and the power of her music come alive on stage. This is your chance to relive the magic and celebrate the legacy of a true icon!
– PREPARATIONS –
• Please prepare 16-32 bars of a song in the style of the show. (Please do not sing from the show.)
• Please bring appropriately marked sheet music as an accompanist will be provided. Instrumental tracks are acceptable but not preferred. No acapella auditions.
• Please be prepared to learn a short combination for a dance call. We suggest bringing a change of clothes!
• You may be asked to stay and read from the script after vocal auditions.
• Please bring a headshot and resume. (A selfie is okay in lieu of a professional headshot!)
• Please bring ALL known conflicts from SEPTEMBER 7 - DECEMBER 22. The rehearsal schedule will be based on conflicts submitted by cast members.
— REHEARSAL INFORMATION —
• Although the schedule is currently not set, productions typically rehearse *select* weeknights (Monday - Friday, anywhere between 6:30pm - 10:00pm.) Occasional weekend rehearsals may occur depending on the conflicts and needs of the production.
• Rehearsals are held at Players by the Sea (106 6th Street North, Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250). In the rare event of scheduling conflicts within our facility, alternative rehearsal locations will be provided with reasonable notice.

Diva Donna/Mary Gaines (Female Identifying, 50s, African-American): Donna Summer at the pinnacle of her career. She is warm and wise. She has lived a life and is our emcee for the evening. Also, Mary Gaines, Donna's mother. Vocal Range: Belt to E and mix to G above staff.
Disco Donna (Female Identifying, 20s, African-American): Donna Summer in her late teens, riding the wave of her skyrocketing career from Boston to Germany, to the discotheques of Lost Angeles and Manhattan. She is charismatic and strong as she navigates this world for the first time. Vocal Range: Belt to E and mix to G above staff.
Duckling Donna (Female Identifying, Pre-teen, African-American): Donna Summer as a pre-teen, trying to find her voice amid a large Boston family. She has gumption, and yet is also fragile. Also Mimi, Donna's oldest daughter. Vocal Range: Belt to E and mix to G above staff.
Bruce Sudano (Male Identifying, Late 30s/Early 40s, White): Bass player for Brooklyn Dreams and Donna's eventual husband. Steadfast, supportive, bright, and witty. This role does NOT have to play bass. Vocal Range: Tenor.
Adult Mary Ellen (Female Identifying, 20-30s, African-American): Much like her younger counterpart, she supports Donna when her sister needs her most. Spunky and outspoken. Strong singer, harmonizer, and dancer. Vocal Range: Belt G.
Neil Bogart/Gunter (Male Identifying, Late 30s, White): (NEIL) Head of Casablanca Records and Donna's mentor. Works hard and parties harder. (GUNTER) Donna's German boyfriend. Handsome and charming, but with a darker edge.
Adult Dara (Female Identifying, 20-30s, African-American): Compassionate. Helps Donna during one of her darkest times. Strong singer and dancer.
Andrew Gaines (Male Identifying, 40s, African-American): Donna's father. Ex-military. Has stern exterior but loves his children more than anything.
Joyce Bogart (Female Identifying, 30s, White): Neil Bogart's business-savvy wife. One of Donna's few friends in the industry.
Ensemble: Strong singers and dancers to cover Dara/Amanda Sudano (good harmonizer), Young Mary Ellen/Brooklyn Sudano (good harmonizer) belt to E, Giorgio Moroder Brian/Detective Bob/Helmuth Maid/Michael Pastor/Norm Brokaw (Willam Morris agent) Pete Bellotte.
