Audition will be cold reading. For copies of scenes that will be read request at [email protected]. Actors that are cast will be paid a stipend.
CAST of CHARACTERS
JILLIAN (Female, Age: 30s or 40s) is a former poetry professor who is now a stay-at-home mom with a 3-year-old and a 1-year-old. Her husband frequently travels, leaving her home alone with the kids, and it is starting to drive her a bit crazy.
NEKO (Female, Age: 20s or 30s) Jillian’s cousin. She works as a video editor on training videos and feels unfulfilled by her work. She enjoys pranking people and creating mock content with Jillian's help. She does not have kids.
JAX (Female, Age: 30s or 40s) mother to a four-year-old and a two-year-old. She is a nurse who loves her job but is feeling burnt out. Best friends with Kim. She is an adventure-seeker ready to sell her things and live in the moment.
KIM (Female, Age 30s or 40s) is a mother to a 1.5-year-old. Before her daughter was born, she traveled a lot for work organizing political campaigns. She is highly organized and tracks all the appointments for herself and Jax.
VERA (Female, Age: 20s, 30s, or 40s) mother to a 3-month-old. She loves working with her hands and has previously worked in urban planning, restoration, and landscape architecture. When she is stressed, she loses her voice.
ABOUT PLAY:
Woven from interviews of various commune members, this entirely female tale of motherhood unfolds in comedic snippets and multi-perspective shared memories. #notacult is an unexpectedly poignant portrait of a mother in crisis on a comedic journey to reinvent herself, as well as a heartwarming tale of the bizarre lengths mothers will go to save each other.
Performances are scheduled for January 18th and 19th, 2025 with performances at 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM at the Normal Theater.
