Acacia Theatre Company will be holding auditions for its June production of Angel Street (Gaslight) by Patrick Hamilton on Saturday, December 6th from 3pm-7pm. (If you are unavailable this date but want to audition, please contact the office for alternate options.) Cast: 3W, 2M of any racial or ethnic background. All roles are available. Director: Josh Scheibe. Readings will be from the script. Auditions will be held by appointment only at Church in the City, 2648 N. Auditions at Church in the City, 2648 N Hackett Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53211. Rehearsals will be split between Church in the City and performance location at St. Christopher’s, 7845 N. River Road, River Hills.
Rehearsal Schedule: Beginning approximately May 1, 2026 (depending on cast conflicts). No more than 5 days/week. Weekday evenings. Saturday & Sunday times TBD based on cast availability.

ABOUT THE PLAY:
A Broadway hit first produced on the West End under the title Gaslight and filmed twice, Angel Street tells the story of the Manninghams, who live on Angel Street in 19th-century London. As the curtain rises, all appears to be the essence of Victorian tranquility. It is soon apparent, however, that Mr. Manningham, a suavely handsome man, is slowly driving his gentle, devoted wife, Bella, to the brink of insanity with an insinuating kindness that masks more sinister motives. While he is out, Mrs. Manningham has an unexpected caller: amiable, paternal Inspector Rough from Scotland Yard. Rough is convinced that Mr. Manningham is a homicidal maniac wanted for a murder committed 15 years earlier in this very house. Gradually, the inspector restores Bella’s confidence in herself and, as the evidence against Manningham unfolds, the author has built and sustained some of the most brilliant, suspenseful sequences in modern theatre.
CHARACTERS (ages are from the source material and not prescriptive for casting):
Mrs. Manningham - Wife of Mr. Manningham, around his age or slightly younger. Though she has been happy, she now has a haggard, wan, frightened air, with rings under her eyes, which tell of sleepless nights and worse.
Mr. Manningham - Her husband, perhaps a little older than she. His manner is suave and authoritative, with a touch of mystery and bitterness.
Nancy - Maid to the Manninghams. She is a self-conscious, pretty, cheeky girl of 19.
Elizabeth - Maid to the Manninghams. She is an amicable, subservient woman of 50.
Rough - A police detective. He is middle-aged - active, brusque, friendly, overbearing. He has a low, warm chuckle and completely dominates the scene from the beginning.
