PLACE: The Algonquin Room, a community recreation room at the Placid Pines Senior Care Center in the
Adirondack region of upstate New York.
“THE ALGONQUIN ROOM”
Placid Pines is a senior care center, but one should get the feeling that the building is old and was
built for another purpose, then retrofitted and modified. Thusly, the Algonquin Room will have a
bit of history to it. It was probably a parlor or waiting area at one time. It should have the feeling
of a side road, of being “off the beaten path” – easily missed or possibly not even known of by
some residents. Logistically, it is important that people in the Algonquin room be able to “see”
other people approaching from a distance.
