Thank you for your interest in our 2026 Emerging Directors Showcase! The purpose of the program is to provide a learning environment for New Orleans-area emerging theatre directors to improve their craft through practical application and guidance by mentor directors. Three emerging directors will each direct a One Act play under the guidance of an experienced mentor director.Auditions are June 14 and 15 at CANOA, 4210 St Claude. Sign up for an audition time on our website. Please prepare two monologues of contrasting styles.
THE KNOWLEDGE OF SIN
Directed by Indigo Kercher
An intense two-person drama, “The Knowledge of Sin” follows Frank Fatico during his final court-mandated anger management session. Expecting routine approval to regain visitation rights with his son, Frank instead finds himself pushed by counselor Crispin Abbott to confront the violent incident that led to his arrest. As their session unfolds, the play explores guilt, trauma, and the possibility of redemption.
Available Roles:
Frank: 30’s. Strongly built with a tough demeanor.
Abbott: 60’s. Well-kempt and still handsome.
OVERTONES
Directed by Liann Pattison
Harriet and Margaret are two refined ladies, but Hettie and Maggie are their thoughts and emotions come to life. As cool and serene as Harriet and Margaret may appear, Hettie and Maggie are just as volatile, troubled and passionate. A play where human nature as it appears to the world and as it is becomes dramatized psychology.

Harriet: a cultured woman
Hetty: her primitive self
Margaret: a cultured woman
Maggie: her primitive self
SUPPRESSED DESIRES
Directed by Carlos Turner
Henrietta's obsession with psychoanalysis leads to a completely off-the-wall interpretation of a dream and very nearly to divorce before the absurdity of the situation is realized.
Available Roles:
Henrietta Brewster: A modern, fiercely independent bohemian deeply obsessed with Sigmund Freud and psychoanalysis
Stephen Brewster: Henrietta's practical, level-headed husband who is increasingly exhausted by his wife's psychological obsessions.
Mabel: Henrietta's visiting sister who is experiencing marital unhappiness and becomes the subject of Henrietta’s zealous analyses.

Rehearsals will take place in July and August, generally on weekday evenings, and weekends according to cast availability. Each one-act will rehearse approximately 8 hours each week (2 hours, four times a week) until tech week.
Performances: CANOA, 4210 St Claude, August 13-15, 7:30pm. Two one-acts will be performed each night on a rotating basis. The final schedule will be determined once tech needs are finalized. Each one-act will perform twice. An example schedule is
