Alice au pays des mémères is a Louisiana French-Language and Creole-Language play based upon Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and influenced by French Louisiana traditions. It is the story of young Alice who enters an unusual world where she discovers persons who reflect both Wonderland-like animals and members of her family from generations past who lead her on a journey of self-discovery and understanding of her culture. The play features both youth and adult characters. Native French speakers, French Immersion students, persons with various levels of French proficiency, adult or youth are all invited to audition. One need not be a fluent speaker to audition. Practically all roles are open to all ages and genders. Auditions, rehearsals, and performances will all be held at Cité des Arts in Lafayette. Auditions will be held Saturday, Dec. 6, between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm, with possible call-backs on the afternoon of Sunday, Dec. 7. Actors will be given parts of the script to read for the auditions, and if desired they can prepare a monologue in either French or English to deliver at the auditions as well. There will be three performances, two on Saturday, April 25 and one on Sunday, April, 26, 2026. The production will be an official event of Festival International de Louisiane! Rehearsals will begin mid-January and will be held most Saturday mornings and Thursday evenings, but not all actors will be required to attend each rehearsal. There will likely be additional rehearsals required in the weeks just prior to the performances.
