AUDITION NOTICE: A Raisin in the Sun at The Milburn Stone TheatreThe Milburn Stone Theatre at Cecil College is pleased to announce auditions for Lorraine Hansberry’s groundbreaking drama A Raisin in the Sun, directed by Alliyah Thorpe, with stage management by Matt Lucatamo and artistic direction by Andrew John Mitchell.

Dates:
Monday, September 29 at 7:00 PM
Tuesday, September 30 from 6:00–7:00 PM
Where: The Milburn Stone Theatre

Preparation: Prepare a 1–2 minute monologue in the style of the play.

Date: Tuesday, September 30 from 7:30–9:45 PM
Notifications for those auditioning on September 29 will be sent by 10:00 AM on September 30. Tuesday auditionees will be notified after their audition.
📅 Rehearsals
Rehearsals begin in early October and will typically take place 2–4 times per week, based on cast and staff availability. Please submit all known conflicts at the time of auditions.
No rehearsals will be scheduled during the following Cecil College closures:
November 26–30 (Thanksgiving)
December 24–January 4 (Winter Holiday)
January 17–19 (MLK Jr. Day)
🎭 Tech Week
Dates: Sunday, January 25 – Thursday, January 29
No conflicts will be accepted during tech week.

Times: Friday & Saturday at 7:30 PM; Saturday & Sunday at 2:00 PM
Possible additional school-day performance on Monday, February 2 (to be confirmed in January).
This is a non-union, non-paid, community theatre production open to the public.
Casting Breakdown
All roles are available. Age ranges are approximate; all are encouraged to audition. Characters will be performed as originally written.
Walter Lee Younger (Male, 30–40): A dreamer frustrated with his circumstances; determined to make a better life for his family.
Beneatha Younger (Female, 19–25): An intellectual, college student, and aspiring doctor; searching for identity and purpose.
Lena “Mama” Younger (Female, 55–65): The matriarch; deeply religious, nurturing, and determined to secure her family’s future.
Ruth Younger (Female, 29–37): Walter’s wife; practical, resilient, and striving to hold her family together.
Travis Younger (Male, 9–12): The energetic son of Walter and Ruth.
Joseph Asagai (Male, 20–28): Nigerian student, deeply proud of his heritage; in love with Beneatha.
George Murchison (Male, 25–35): Wealthy suitor of Beneatha; assimilated and dismissive of African roots.
Mr. Karl Lindner (Male, 35–50, White): Representative of the Clybourne Park Improvement Association.
Bobo (Male, 30–40): Walter’s business partner in a liquor store scheme.
