The Play That Goes Wrong is a hilarious comedy that follows the antics of the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society as they attempt to stage a murder mystery play titled "The Murder at Haversham Manor." However, everything that can go wrong goes wrong, leading to hilarious chaos on stage. Despite their best efforts, the amateur actors struggle to keep the show together, resulting in a side-splitting spectacle that leaves the audience in stitches from start to finish.
ABOUT AUDITIONS:
Auditions will consist of cold readings from the scripts. Perusal scripts are available at the box office and the main office at PLT for those who would like to look them over before auditions.
LOOKING FOR:
As with any play-within-a-play, you have the complication of the characters of the actors doing the play-within-a-play and the characters within the play-within-a-paly. To make this a little simpler, the names are laid out below in a combined list. Firstly, you will see the name of the Cornely Drama Society characters who are putting "The Murder at the Haversham Manor," and secondly, you will see a notation under that character with the name of the character they portray in the play-within-a-play.
ANNE - The company’s stage manager. An American accent.
STAGE CREW (3-5 actors) - The Cornley Drama Society stage crew.
TREVOR - The Company’s lighting and sound operator. American accent.
CHRIS - The head of the drama society directed the play and play Inspector Carter.
- Inspector Carter: An esteemed local inspector.
JONATHAN - Plays Charles Haversham.
- Charles Haversham: the deceased.
ROBERT - Plays Thomas Colleymoore.
- Thomas Colleymoore: Charles' old school friend.
DENNIS - Plays Perkins.
- Perkins: Charles’ Butler.
MAX - Plays Cecil Haversham and Arthur the Gardener.
- Cecil Haversham: Charles’ Brother.
- Arthur the Gardener: The gardener at Haversham Manor.
SANDRA - Plays Florence Colleymoore.
- Florence Colleymoore: Charles’ fiance and Thomas’ sister.
