RIDE THE CYCLONE THE MUSICAL

PLOT: In this heartfelt and hilarious tale, the lives of six teenagers from a Canadian chamber choir are cut short in a freak accident aboard a roller coaster. When they awake in limbo, a mechanical fortune teller "THE AMAZING KARNAK" invites each to tell their story to win a prize like no other — the chance to return to life. This popular musical is a funny, moving look at what makes a life well-lived!

WHAT TO PREPARE: Please prepare a song that is a minute to a minute and a half in length. Please no longer than 90 seconds maximum. Please prepare your own accompaniment/backing track, a BlueTooth speaker will be provided!
Find a song that is in line with the character(s) you wish to audition for. Find something that excites you, and show us your personality in your song! Songs do not need to be from musicals. If you need musical recommendations to look into, reach out to us at [email protected].
If you have multiple characters you want to audition for, or cannot decide on one that matches a character, bring a song that you love and have always wanted to audition with and shows us your vocals and your personality!
CHARACTERS AND AUDITION TYPE SONGS:
Ocean: A song that makes you feel confident and hyped up OR a song that showcases leadership and confidence OR shows us your arrogant side.
Jane Doe: An operatic ballad that showcases your higher vocal range. Please also research the song “Ballad of Jane Doe” and be prepared to potentially perform the high part towards the end. Time Stamp (3:20 - 3:50)
Constance: A pop ballad or a song that showcases vulnerability. Show us you can rock out!
Karnak: A humorous song that shows us your comedic timing. You can alternatively bring a comedic monologue in place of a song that is a minute to a minute and a half in length, as Karnak is a non-singing role.
Ricky: A pop solo that shows us your weirder side (Also think Sci fi or musicals based on IP) OR a rock song that shows us your rockstar side.
Misha: Either foreign piece OR hip hop or rock solo.
Noel: A romantic solo.
Karnak's Puppet: A character piece that shows off your character-based acting. If you have dance experience PLEASE feel free to show us some stuff afterwords, we want someone who can help bend the world around them through movement!
Following vocal auditions, we will have short cold readings of monologues and scenes, and will conclude with an improvisation based movement routine. Please Note: Those auditioning for JANE DOE may be asked to stay behind and sing a portion of the song “Ballad of Jane Doe”
CHARACTERS:
Characters in RIDE THE CYCLONE may be played by any actor regardless of gender, orientation, ethnicity, or identity! Actor ages are also incredibly flexible, think casting like 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Some characters can be cast young, middle aged, or old, there is lots of flexibility!
OCEAN O’CONNELL ROSENBERG: A competitive over-achiever who struggles to put others before herself.
CONSTANCE BLACKWOOD: The secretly self-loathing "nicest girl in town" who has complicated feelings about her hometown.
JANE DOE: A decapitated girl who is unsure of her true identity. The only unidentified body in the Cyclone roller coaster disaster. She is essentially a puppet without a head.
NOEL GRUBER: The only gay boy in Uranium who has an obsession with French New Wave cinema and escapes his mundane life through romantic fantasies.
MISCHA BACHINSKI: A Ukrainian adoptee who puts on a tough-guy persona to conceal his passionate nature.
RICKY POTTS: A boy with traumatic mutism and an overactive imagination, who is able to show his true self and let everyone hear his real voice and personality in limbo.
THE AMAZING KARNAK: A mechanical fortune-telling machine that serves as the narrator and game master.
KARNAK’S MARIONETTE: A marionette playing various characters in flashbacks, is the hands and feet of Karnak to manipulate the world of limbo. A few characters they will be playing include (not limited to): Virgil the Rat, Ocean's Mother, French Priest, Talia, and Count Dogulous. We are looking for a strong multi-character actor AND a strong mover/dancer
We also will be considering the possibility (but not guarantee) of double casting or understudy casting. More information will be provided at auditions on the audition sheets.
