CAST REQUIREMENTS
Please note: Specified ages are playing ages only. Actors of all identities and backgrounds are encouraged to audition.
Mickey Fox Lead
Male, 40-60
A comedian in the traditional comic vaudeville days, a regular customer in the diner, everyone there is like family to him, he is funny even when not onstage, makes no attempt to hide the accent he grew up with in the Lower East Side of New York, actor must be able to do accent.
Andrew Duncan Lead
Male, 30-60
British talent agent, well-dressed, laughs easily, he is in New York to hire Mickey to perform in London, and thinks Mickey is the funniest guy he has ever talked to, must have British accent.
Solomon Mantutu Supporting
Male, 25-50
South African playwright, soft spoken, educated, polite, wants to please everyone, seeks a production of his first play, must have South African accent.
Bernie Supporting
Male, 50-60
Owner of the diner, seems to be a curmudgeon but has a big heart, good natured, a straight shooter, strong as an ox, slight Polish accent.
Zelda Supporting
Female, 50-60
Bernie’s wife, the other owner of the diner, strong, vital, feisty, has a big heart, loves her work because it makes her feel young, always wants to get the job done, slight Polish accent.
Rayleen Supporting
Female, 50-60
Has-been actress who is starting to lose her mind, acts like royalty and exudes an attitude of being from money or high society, even though she isn’t, talks a lot, likes to order her husband around.
Charles Supporting
Male, 50-60
Rayleen’s husband, quiet, patient when his wife orders him around, but he understands her problems, near the end of show he lets his wife know his feelings in a very emotional & liberating moment.
Harry Fox Supporting
Male, 40-60
Mickey’s brother, trying to get Mickey to help his son become a comedian, not as boisterous as Mickey but he can stand up to his brother in any situation, has the same accent as Mickey.
Megan Supporting
Female, 20-30
From Ohio, has come to New York to be an actress on Broadway, open, sincere, sweet, nervous, enthusiastic, a hard worker, always friendly to all she meets, very Midwestern.
Arleen and Cindy Supporting
Female, 20-40
Suburbanite theatre goers, loves to gossip, thinks they know everything about theatre, must have a New York or New Jersey accent.
Bessie Supporting
Female, 30-50
Very successful Broadway actress/comedienne, confident, worldly, nice, warm, the people in the diner are like family to her, she is from New York, but will seek her future in Hollywood, slight New York accent.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
Auditions will occur at The Little Theatre of Virginia Beach on Monday January 20 and Tuesday January 21 at 7pm
• Auditionees will be asked to read from the script. Extracts will be provided at the audition.
• Auditionees are asked to attend the audition with a spirit of good humour, spontaneity as well as strong focus.
• If required, callbacks will be scheduled for Wednesday January 22nd at 7pm.
• This production welcomes auditionees who are 18 years or older at the time of audition.
SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS
• The commitment for this production requires performers to be available four times per week Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday.
• Rehearsals will occur from 7-10 on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
• Rehearsals on Saturday will occur from 10-2
• A comprehensive rehearsal schedule will be made available at the first rehearsal.
• Whilst the schedule will be designed to ensure performers are only called when required, there is an expectation that performers can commit themselves fully to the process.
KEY DATES
• January 25th, 10am-2pm First Rehearsal and Table Read.
• March 16th – March 20th Technical rehearsals
