She has digitized and restored recordings across formats, eras, and genres for Woody Guthrie, Erroll Garner, Clifton Chenier, Margo Guryan, as well as every release from cult reissue label Awesome Tapes From Africa. She has also mastered new records for Kurt Vile, Pachyman, Meklit, and many more. A champion of independent creators, she is happy to get her hands dirty to help launch archival audio preservation projects, including organizing and digitizing hundreds of analog tapes, DATs, cassettes, and discs for the Louie and Bebe Barron Archives, the Arhoolie Foundation, and radio producers the Kitchen Sisters. She currently serves on the Association for Recorded Sound Collections Technical Committee and on the Recording Academy Board of Trustees.
Bio for Lyle Nagatomo:
Lyle Nagatomo is originally from New York, was raised in Tampa Bay, educated Emerson College in Boston and in California at San Francisco State University. He has been a professional on the technology side of the entertainment industry since the age of fourteen. He currently works as a Broadcast Audio Engineer at San Francisco State University’s BECA department supporting analog and digital education curriculum.
He was accepted into the Broadcast Electronic Communication Art’s first MFA cohort with the intention of becoming a fulltime professor in media arts production. His current areas of research are in media production, legacy format archiving, and audio systems management.
Professionally he is a self-described jack-of-all trades in audio and video production, and is a current committee member of AES San Francisco section, and I.A.T.S.E. Local 16 Journeyman.
When he’s not fixing broken gear at BECA, Lyle is busy monitoring industry trends, playing video games, making a racket with various instruments, and developing solutions to problems that nobody has…yet.
