About this Event

For this in-person, audio described tour, we will explore Fascinating Redcoats . We will discuss the artefacts on display relating including original architectural drawings, photographs and insignia. Pre-registration is required. This tour is designed for people who are blind or partially sighted, but everyone is welcome.

Fascinating Redcoats or the Story of Wolseley Barracks (June 26 - September 20) traces the origins and evolution of the Infantry School building – now known as “A” Block at Wolseley Barracks– on lands once part of Treaty 6 of 1792. Through archival maps, architectural drawings, photographs, and other artefacts, Fascinating Redcoats reveals how the arrival of “D” Company of the Infantry School Corps transformed the local landscape, economy, and community life.

How to Get to the Museum

To access the site, you will find the gate across from approximately 709 Elizabeth Street. This is south from Oxford Street and a short walk from the Oxford and Adelaide bus stops for Route 4, 16, 17, 91, 92 and 104. Once you enter the property you will speak with the Commissionaire located in a small white structure inside the property, before travelling through the military site to the museum. This structure is located partway up a small hill in the center of the road. Starting 1 April 2026, visitors are required to provide a government issued photo ID at the controlled access point to the military property.

This video shows how to access the museum. If you have any questions, need assistance or require more detailed instructions, please contact the museum's Public Programmer.

The museum is situated on an active military base. Do not attempt to access other buildings or wander around the property farther than the museum surroundings.
