We are delighted to invite you to our next Zoological Society talk:
"Auckland Whitebait Habitat Restoration Project" presented by Briar Broad
For most New Zealanders, whitebait season is closely associated with the word fritter. Love ’em or hate ’em, the little white fish themselves are very special and deserve your attention—they are in fact a threatened species and are in decline due to large-scale habitat changes in many catchments. Briar will talk about freshwater fish generally, but with a focus on whitebait, their lifecycle, locality and status. She will also discuss the work that Whitebait Connection is currently undertaking across the Auckland Region to build the capability and capacity of community in freshwater conservation, including protection of īnanga spawning sites.
Briar holds a Masters in Environmental Science (Freshwater Ecology) and is the Auckland Regional Manager of Whitebait Connection, a programme of the charitable Mountains to Sea Conservation trust. The trusts' goal is to empower and support communities to achieve marine and freshwater conservation through science based experiential programmes, resources, projects and community engagement.
Following Briar's presentation, we invite you to connect and network with fellow attendees.
