**April 6th: NEW SCHEDULE! Class w/ Colby + DJs Krystyna, Katie, & Whitney**
Starting in April, ATX Fusion is becoming a monthly event! We'll still be hosting our event on the first Sunday of every month, but we'll no longer be hosting events on the third Sunday.
We're offering a consistent schedule every month: class followed by three hours of dancing! Our event still ends at 11pm, but class now starts at 7pm, and dancing starts at 8pm. We're still in Balance Dance Studios' Bravo building, but we're trying out Studio 10 down the hall.
We're also changing our pricing! Our entry fee is no longer be dependent on what time you arrive—we're using a sliding scale from $10-25, and we're able to accept payment via Venmo.
This month, J. Colby Adams will teach a Fusion Foundations class, then we'll be treated to music from DJs Krystyna Lopez, Katie Rose, and Whitney Sullivan!
SCHEDULE:
7pm: Fusion Foundations class w/ J. Colby Adams
8-9pm: DJ Krystyna Lopez
9-10pm: DJ Katie Rose
10-11pm: DJ Whitney Sullivan
PRICING: Sliding scale: $10-25. We accept card, cash, or Venmo at the door.
We're trying to keep the dance as cheap as we can while still maintaining the quality of the event, so we're offering a sliding scale. If you're able, sending a few extra dollars our way will mean we can do more for the event in the future!
CLASS TOPIC: Fusion Foundations
While each Fusion dancer draws from their own individual dance background, there are structural basics that facilitate better non-verbal dance communication, and there are ways of building deeper dance floor connections. In Fusion, we often don’t share the same dance ‘vocabulary’ as dancers with other backgrounds. Without this vocabulary, we rely on our dance connections and non-verbal communication almost entirely to co-create our experiences together.
We’ll talk about core aspects of how to find our way to surprising dance floor creations and shared musical flow states—dance frames, personal comfort, tone matching our partners in frame and through dance moves, active listening in both roles, and how to step into the first dance with someone new. If you’re new to Fusion dancing, this class will help you feel more comfortable dancing in this unique environment. If you’ve been a Fusion dancer for a while, this class will be a great refresher!
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: J. Colby’s first partner dance love was Argentine Tango, where he learned his appreciation for dance principles. Eventually, he dabbled in teaching beginner lessons in tango. He has taught in various dance styles over the years, but since 2018, he’s been focused on Fusion. He leans on his strong background of teaching martial arts when teaching any physical art.
LOCATION:
We are now hosting our events at Balance Dance Studios! We are in Studio 10, which is located in Balance Dance Studios' Bravo building, just across the parking lot from their main building. The building we'll be in says "Bravo" on it. If the building says "Balance" on it and has a front desk, you're in the wrong place. If you're driving and using Google Maps, you can put in "Bravo Dance Theater, 4000 West Gate Blvd," but this won't work if you're taking a rideshare.
PLEASE NOTE:
Venue does not permit alcohol. Please feel free to BYO other beverages, especially water, dancing is a physical activity after all!
Only soft-soled dance shoes, socks, or bare feet are allowed on the studio floor. Please do not wear street shoes, heels, or hard-heeled shoes on the studio floor, as they will damage it. Help us keep this beautiful venue in great shape!
If you're feeling under the weather or ill, please don't attend! Take care of yourself, and avoid bringing a contagion to a crowded space and dance partners you care about.

WHAT IS FUSION DANCING?
Fusion is an improvisational partner dance where there's a lead and a follow that isn't confined to or defined by one style. Fusion dancers tend to be familiar with the basics of more than one partner dance (Blues, Tango, West Coast Swing, Brazilian Zouk, Lindy Hop, etc.)
