About this Event
The workshop will include theory teaching, presentations of clinical case materials as well as the opportunity for participants to discuss and reflect on their own clinical cases. The training will examine how attachment disruptions can contribute to enduring and complex psychiatric difficulties. It will examine processes such as mentalizing failures, dissociation, shame and traumatic bonding. Through a presentation of video vignettes of real therapy sessions, different therapeutic techniques will be introduced to help participants develop and enhance their skills in working with different clinical phenomena.
The workshop will be very practical in nature with the aim of learning and practicing specific therapeutic skills. The spaces will be limited to 20 people and the workshop is designed at specific skills building. There will be an active focus in participants bringing their own clinical material and practicing the techniques through role-plays.

-Attachment based psychodynamic clinical interviews
-Developing a joint psychodynamic formulation
-Emotional regulation and working with defenses
-Understanding the phenomenology of emotion and affective experience

Dr Javier Malda Castillo is a Clinical Psychologist and lead of a tertiary Psychotherapy & Personality Disorder Department in the NHS. He is the founder and director of ISTDP-North, an accredited Intensive-Short Term Dynamic (ISTDP) psychotherapist with the International Experiential Dynamic Therapy Association (IEDTA), a Mentalization Based Treatment (MBT) supervisor accredited by the Anna Freud Center, a group analytic practitioner accredited by the Institute of Group Analysis (IGA) and a Tavistock psychodynamic psychotherapy graduate.
Attendees:
The workshop is only suitable for registered clinicians working in mental health or allied fields. The seminar is also suitable for trainees or professionals (i.e. assistant psychologists) working under the clinical supervision of clinicians registered with an accrediting body. Attendees will be required to sign a confidentiality agreement in order to participate.
