Join us in supporting a groundbreaking event aimed at fostering dialogue, understanding, and healing in our community. With your generous contribution, we can help offset the costs of bringing the thought-provoking Atonement Flag to Unity Richmond. A two sided American flag created from fabric patterns designed from photographs taken of graffiti on the Confederate Monuments before they were taken down. One side is upside right, denoting our perfect union. The other side is upside down, denoting the pain, oppression and unhealed wounds from racial injustice. This piece will be accompanied by three other assemblage pieces that reference the Civil War.
Funeral of a Nation is a 30-minute musical essay produced by Hardcover. Grammy award-winning songwriter, Harold Lilly and filmmaker, Keith Nixon Jr. came together to create this exercise in cultural study. The premise of this short film is to engage the viewer in a conversation regarding race relations past, present and future. The intent is to humanize, empathize and sympathize.
This event will take place over the Arts in the Park weekend. In addition to the art that will be on display, author Sylvia Clute will be there with her new release Unitive Justice: Bending the Arc of Justice Toward Love, along with a voter registration table
