When ATEG and the Western Pennsylvania Writing Project come together in July, we will focus on equity and its role in grammar instruction. Both organizations are committed to inclusive language arts pedagogy and therefore emphasize and value equity. By prioritizing equity in grammar instruction, educators can craft inclusive and meaningful instruction that empowers all students, and we hope to promote and discover effective, sustainable ways of crafting such instruction. Some of the questions we'll be exploring are as follows:
What does equitable grammar instruction look like?
What instructional practices can teachers use to make their grammar instruction effective?
What challenges stand in the way of equitable grammar instruction? How can teachers overcome those challenges?
What key principles, ideas, and concepts should teachers keep in mind to center equity in their grammar instruction?
How can ATEG and the Western Pennsylvania Writing Project support equity in grammar instruction?
How can equity-focused educators work together and support one another?
We look forward to seeing you in Pittsburgh, July 12–13, to discuss these questions and more! Registration is only $30 and includes a one-year ATEG membership. Proposals are still being accepted, and registration is open at www.GrammarTeachers.org.
