Dr. Jeffrey Watson
Are you seeking effective ways to address academic integrity challenges in the age of AI? Dr. Jeffrey Watson brings a wealth of experience and insight into combating academic dishonesty, including the misuse of AI, with strategies that can make a real difference in your courses.
Dr. Watson is a lecturer with the School of Historical, Philosophical, and Religious Studies at Arizona State University. His research primarily focuses on the Metaphysics of Mind, particularly emergentism and its relation to mental causation. He teaches a variety of philosophy courses, including Metaphysics, Epistemology, Philosophy of Mind, History of Modern Philosophy, History of Ethics, and Symbolic Logic.
His research extends into a broad range of philosophical questions, such as the nature of vague predicates, the sorites paradox, counterfactual reasoning, and the extension of moral responsibility across time. Prior to joining ASU, Dr. Watson taught at Northern Arizona University, Yavapai College, and Arizona State University-West. An Arizona native, he has a longstanding connection with the local academic community.
In his presentation, Dr. Watson will share practical approaches to maintaining academic integrity in his courses, focusing on how he has successfully mitigated the misuse of AI tools and fostered a culture of honesty among students.
Dr. Elizabeth Kizer
Looking to strengthen career-focused learning in your courses? Dr. Elizabeth Kizer has successfully crafted impactful career-based learning paths and assignments in HCD 403, providing valuable insights into how you can elevate your course materials.
Dr. Kizer is an associate teaching professor and the director of the undergraduate Health Care Administration and Policy program. Her research spans rural health, social determinants of health, and the well-being of marginalized communities. As a dedicated educator, she has prioritized creating strong community partnerships, enabling students to apply their knowledge through internships and hands-on projects that benefit both students and the community.
During her presentation, Dr. Kizer will share her experiences in designing these career-oriented opportunities, highlighting practical strategies that can help enhance student engagement and career readiness in your courses.
Applying her experience in the field, she has developed a unique course with well-developed case studies where students demonstrate skills utilizing provided scenarios. In this talk, she will share her success collaborating with instructional design to develop a choose-your-adventure course where students pick a path and follow it through the course while learning and applying process engineering skills.
Dr. Robert Fuller
Explore how Dr. Robert Fuller’s storytelling techniques bring his lecture videos to life, using captivating narratives to engage students and promote success in HST 377. His innovative approach to student engagement offers valuable insights to enhance your own teaching methods.
Dr. Fuller is a doctoral student in History at the School of Historical, Philosophical, and Religious Studies. His research focuses on apocalypticism, fundamentalism, and the intersection of religious beliefs with popular attitudes toward environmental science and activism. His upcoming dissertation delves into the significant shifts in evangelical views on climate change and the environmental crisis since the 1970s.
In his presentation, Dr. Fuller will share how he leverages storytelling in his lectures to deepen student engagement and understanding, providing strategies that can be applied across various disciplines.
