Astronomy Lecture: The Search for Evidence of Life on Enceladus

Please join the Mt. Diablo Astronomical Society for our September 22 general meeting featuring Alfonso Davila, a Research Scientist in the Exobiology branch at NASA Ames Research Center, where he helps develop strategies to search for evidence of life beyond Earth. In 2005, the Cassini spacecraft made a groundbreaking discovery – a massive plume of ice and gas erupting from the south pole of Enceladus, a small but geologically active moon of Saturn. This talk will focus on our current understanding of Enceladus’ plume and subsurface ocean, and on strategies to search in them for possible evidence of life. The meeting starts at 7:15 p.m. with a short “What’s Up?” by MDAS member José Aguilar-Rodriguez, who will discuss his visit to the Meteor Crater in Arizona.
