Astronomy Lecture: Fun with Stellarium

Please join the Mt. Diablo Astronomical Society for our August 25 general meeting featuring MDAS Member Jeff Adkins, a retired high school physics and astronomy teacher and an adjunct professor at Los Medanos College in Pittsburg, who will lead us on a quick tour of some of the “other things” Stellarium open-source planetarium software can do, for those cloudy nights when you can’t use your telescope. Among other ideas Jeff will share are: using Stellarium to design a backyard Stonehenge;

track and plot the orbits of the moons of Jupiter; control your telescope from your computer; and perform simulations of ancient astronomical events. The meeting starts at 7:15 p.m. in the Lindsay Wildlife Experience Community Room, 1931 First Avenue, Walnut Creek, CA 94597
