Title: The Cosmic Mystery of Fast Radio Bursts
Speaker: Dr. Navin Sridhar (KIPAC/Stanford)
Abstract: Fast Radio Bursts (FRBs) are the brightest cosmic pulses observed in the radio wavelength, releasing as much energy in just a few milliseconds as our Sun does over roughly 100 days. Despite numerous hypotheses, the physical origin of FRBs remains unknown. In this lecture, I will present a brief history of FRB discovery, explore how they have reshaped our understanding of the Universe and physics under extreme conditions, and discuss some leading ideas on what could be powering these extraordinary radio pulses.
