Half Day Face to Face Course on Assisting and Moving People for Adult Care Staff
About this Event

How long is the course?

This is a half-day course, running over 3 hours.

Who is the training aimed at?

  • Health workforce
  • Social care workforce
  • Nurses
  • Family, parent, sibling carers and personal assistants of people who need care
  • Any person who requires a general awareness of assisting and moving people

Course Learning Outcomes

  • List the relevant legislation and state how this relates to safe moving and handling/positioning
  • The Health and Safety Executive (HSE)
  • LOLER (lifting operations & lifting equipment regulations), PUWA (provision & use of work equipment regulations)
  • Understand your company Policy
  • Describe manual handling risk factors and how injuries can occur
  • Explain your own responsibilities under local organizational policies for moving and handling/positioning
  • Describe an ergonomic approach to manual handling and other work tasks leading to improved working posture
  • Explain the main principles of safer handling including good back care to promote general musculoskeletal health
  • Give examples of suitable risk control strategies, resources, and support available to facilitate good practice following a risk assessment appropriate to the staff member’s role.
  • Explain the basic anatomy and physiology of movement
  • List the main types of equipment and describe how these are used
  • Demonstrate the following manoeuvres:
  1. Chair to standing moves and transfers
  2. Bed/chair/toilet moves and transfers
  3. Managing the falling/fallen patient

  • Royal College of Nursing – Moving and Handling
  • Health and Safety at Work Act 1974

Delivery Method - How will it look like on the day?

This coursre will be delivered in person, over a half day. The training venue details are provided above. The training session will be interactive, and will offer a fully immersive learning experience that is enhanced by small group learning. All learners will have the opportunity to engage directly with the trainers, take part in interactive activities and share learning with others in focused discussions.

Cost

The cost of the course is £65 per person. Payment needs to be made ahead of the course start. Cancellations and refund requests would need to be submitted at least 14 days ahead of the course start. You can process a cancellation/refund via our booking portal.

Funding for Training

Funding is available for HCPA Members. Learn more about HCPA Membership here.

In selecting the training venue, we have ensured that the training room, kitchen and toilets are all accessible, and all are located on the ground floor.

Paid parking is available near the venue.
