Course Description: This POST Certified course is designed for law enforcement officers involved in the seizures and forfeitures of assets in criminal investigations. It will focus on investigative techniques, legal and ethical requirements, limitations, and highlight situations that may necessitate scrutiny to ensure the integrity of the forfeiture action.
It will emphasize the importance of the forfeiture of assets as a tool to deprive criminals of their illicitly obtained proceeds and to disrupt the activities of criminal organizations and individual violators.
It will explore the topics of: • items subject to forfeiture • probable cause and nexus • practical considerations surrounding forfeiture cases • and the avoidance of impropriety
