Assessments: Diving deeper for equity in practice

Assessments and data drive our teaching. Collecting information on what kids can do will inform how and what we teach them, especially when assessment data is used to differentiate learning in an authentic way that considers what kids bring to the learning experience. This training session will explore the importance and effectiveness of using data to inform what and how we teach so that ALL kids are growing and learning across all developmental areas. We will explore a few theories behind data use, the data use practices of a sample of interviewed teachers, effective strategies that can be used to collect, interpret and incorporate data into our teaching practices, as well as steps to use data for family communication and involvement.
