About this Event

Assessment and formulation using a psychodynamic framework

1-day training

Assessment and clinical formulation are a dedicated piece of work, requiring specific skills, which allow us to make sense of the possibilities and limitations of the clinical offering. The day hopes to enable participants to begin evolving for themselves, a coherent psychoanalytically informed and dedicated theory of assessment. We will explore the particular work of formulation offering an understanding of the nature of early object relations and their impact on current relational patterns and symptoms and the ways in which these can be explored relationally and via the arts medium. An arts psychotherapies specific intervention focuses on re-representations (image, sound, movement, narrative) of self and other and the underlying affect allows us an important relational and linked with the interpersonal and somatic context This will be linked to the identification of what, if any, therapeutic intervention is indicated; how this might be anticipated to be experienced. Thus, enabling the collaborative formulation of appropriate and safe treatment plans. Interventions will be considered within the current evidence base of arts psychotherapies treatments including Mentalisation for complex trauma and psychosis, and Brief Dynamic Arts Psychotherapies (ADIT)

Verbal and arts-based interventions and strategies are described in the context of arts psychotherapies practice and are explored in the development of a coherent co created dynamic formulation. Teaching includes presentations and experiential work.
