OUR EVENTS:
Our Coffee Chats occur on Wednesday evenings, from 6:00pm-8:00pm (currently 2x per month, but will change to 1x per month beginning in September 2026).
Please be aware that all Winter dates are weather dependent.
ABOUT US:
* ASL Thornhill Hangout is a social club that hosts IN-PERSON ASL Coffee Chats
* Founded in August 2018 by Pamela Varano, we are an ASL Social Coffee Club.
* Our group is for d/Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals, Hearing Signers, ASL Students, and ASL Interpreters; essentially anyone who is either a native user of ASL or is learning ASL and wants to practise in an immersive, casual, friendly environment.
* We meet for "ASL coffee” to chat in sign.
* We are a VOICELESS social club - that means NO TALKING or WHISPERING!
* All ASL skills levels are welcome (beginner to advanced), but at least some basic ASL skills are required so you can communicate and participate
* Our group is also a great opportunity for ASL students to practise their receptive and expressive ASL conversation skills with Native and Advanced Signers.
* This is a social hangout/club; not a class
COST:
* No cost to attend
* Please support the mall businesses by buying food or beverage items
WHERE WE MEET:
* We meet IN-PERSON ONLY (there are no virtual/online events)
* Promenade Mall, (1 Promenade Circle, Thornhill, Ontario)
* Centre Court (downstairs, big open seating area, just outside the Food Court)
PARKING / TRANSIT / ENTRANCE:
* Lots of free parking around the mall
* Accessible by Viva/YRT; directly across from Promenade Bus Terminal
* Nearest entrances: downstairs entry #4 (northwest side), upstairs main entrance #1 (east side, facing Bathurst), or downstairs entry #3 by T&T (northwest side)
