Join us as we celebrate Diwali, the festival of lights, with food, performances, crafts, and more!
About this Event

Celebrate Diwali, the festival of lights, with NMAA! Learn how different regions celebrate the holiday through food, discussions, crafts, and activities. Enjoy dance and music performances, create crafts to take home, and see the museum lit up once the sun goes down.


Program Details:

Food Vendors

5-9:30 p.m. - Enjoy cuisine from the Indian diaspora with local food vendors on the West Building Plaza, including Rasa, Himalayan Soul Food, Apna Pizza, Swaadish by Neelma, and Malai Ice Cream.


Crafts & Coloring

5-9 p.m. – Color a diya in the East Building Pavilion on level 1.

Decorate a rangoli in Gallery 27 on level B1.

Create a woodblock print in the ImaginAsia Studio on level B2.

Create a storybook in the Freer Conference Room (West Building).

Learn and play different board games in the West Building South Corridor.


Performances

6 p.m. – Performance by The Tabla Queen on the West Building Plaza.

7:25 p.m. – Dance performance by DC Bhangra Crew to kick off our Afterhours Dance Party.

7:30–9:30 p.m. – Afterhours Dance Party on the West Building Plaza!


Special Decorations

5–9:30 p.m. – Enjoy seeing the West Building Plaza and Courtyard lit up to celebrate Diwali.
