THE ASH GROVE ALUMNI SHOW WILL FEATURE THE CHAMBERS FAMILY SINGERS – A REUNION
You may know The Ash Grove Alumni from last year’s sold out shows at McCabe’s. The band, anchored by Joe Chambers of The Chambers Brothers (Time Has Come Today) and Wendy Waldman (Save the Best for Last, Fishing In The Dark) pays homage to the legendary Los Angeles folk & blues club with music that is insightful, fiery, and fiercely eloquent.
What you don’t know is, that while the AGA were rehearsing for their upcoming return to McCabe’s, something remarkable happened. Joe’s sister Jewell was in the room, and as the band was finding their way into a song, she started to add a sweet high harmony. A few minutes later brother Willie Chambers walked in and also began to sing. The mix was deep and resonant. It was the rebirth of The Chambers Family Singers, a group that had performed at McCabe’s nearly fifty years before.
Immediately, everyone knew Willie and Jewell Chambers had to be part of our August 27th Ash Grove Alumni show. The group will perform some songs they’ve been singing together since they were kids in Carthage, Mississippi. They will also do some new numbers written just for this show.
This will be a performance that honors family, perseverance, and musical excellence. It will be one for the angels, and you won’t want to miss it. Just imagine family and close friends sitting together on a Sunday night playing some of the deepest music you have ever heard. So please join us at McCabe’s on Sunday, August 27th. This reunion of The Chambers Family Singers on stage together will be history in the making.

In October of 2020 the Ash Grove Alumni performed at Royce Hall, where they were an acclaimed feature of UCLA’s Tune in Festival. The Ash Grove Alumni fire up old embers while extending the tradition into the future, proving that time has still come today.
