Take a look at our robust selection of Summer Camps this year at The Arts & Science Center, including our Ceramic Camp for June/July 2021.
About this Event

Ceramics Camp will be facilitated by a multi-media artist and ceramicist Yelena Petroukhina. The camp, held in the new The ARTSpace on Main, coincides with her exhibition "Defining Home," on view April 8–July 10, 2021 in ASC's main building.

Students, ages 12-17, will learn fundamental clay hand-building techniques, surface and mono-printed image transfer techniques on clay, use of commercial glazes, and an introduction to kiln use.

During the first session, Petroukhina will lead a discussion of the idea of home and how she approaches the topic in her ceramic work. Participants will be encouraged to formulate their own idea(s) of home and convey them through the construction of a hand-built house, inspired by the pieces featured in Petroukhina’s exhibition.

Petroukhina was born and raised in Bryansk, Russia, and now lives in Little Rock, Arkansas. She is an alumna of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. She teaches art at Horace Mann Middle School in Little Rock. Visit her website at yelenapetroukhina.net.

This camp will run from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday, June 28 through Friday, July 2, & a Monday, July 5 session will be for students to pick up their final fired pieces and for a culminating group activity. The cost is $120 for members and $150 for non-members. Max class size is 15 students.
