[As You Wish] Theatre Performance at Copeland Gallery
About this Event
This performance is being produced as part of the public engagement programme for the exhibition [Unanchored City]. This entire event is taking place as the recipient of the Copeland Gallery’s Emerging Artists Exhibition.
Synopsis
In an unfamiliar exhibition space, an audience encounters a structure with two ladders. Without introduction or explanation, an interview begins between two strangers.
A, the interviewer, reads disconnected fragments from a newspaper like articles, advertisements, and weather forecasts, as though they are interview questions. B, the applicant, tries to interpret these fragments, searching for the "right" answers and the meaning behind them.
As You Wish is a performance about invisible systems, shifting standards, and the anxiety of trying to meet expectations that are never clearly defined. It explores how external pressures become internalised, asking how individuals shape themselves around unseen rules and what happens when those rules can never truly be understood.
