About this Event

Child maltreatment is unfortunately ubiquitous in our world. Young people are also full of resilience, strength, and power. Join us at the ArtWell Office in Oxford Mills to learn about and discuss working with youth who have experienced child abuse and neglect.


About Our Facilitators

Rachel Silliman Cohen, MD, FAAP

Dr. Silliman Cohen is the Director of the Child Abuse Research Education and Services (CARES) Institute at Virtua Health College of Medicine and Life Sciences of Rowan University, which is the legislatively mandated Regional Diagnostic and Treatment Center (RDTC) for southern New Jersey. Dr. Sillman Cohen is dual board-certified in pediatrics and the sub-specialty of child abuse pediatrics and oversees the clinical, educational, and academic activities of the Rowan-Virtua CARES Institute. In addition to her role at the CARES Institute, she holds the academic appointment of associate professor of pediatrics at Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Silliman Cohen has over 10 years of experience as a pediatrician and is an expert in child abuse and neglect. She has conducted research on child abuse and neglect and has published articles on this subject, including in Pediatrics and Clinical Pediatrics. Dr. Silliman Cohen has specific expertise on LGBTQIA+ health, adolescent health, and human trafficking.

Cathleen Cohen, PhD

Cathleen Cohen was the 2019 Poet Laureate of Montgomery County, PA. A painter and teacher, she founded the We the Poets program at ArtWell and now serves as a board member. Her poems appear in journals such as Apiary, Baltimore Review, Cagibi, East Coast Ink, 6ix, North of Oxford, One Art, Passager, Philadelphia Stories, Rockvale Review and Rogue Agent. Camera Obscura (chapbook, Moonstone Press), appeared in 2017 and Etching the Ghost (Atmosphere Press), 2021. She received the Interfaith Relations Award from the Montgomery County PA Human Rights Commission and the Public Service Award from National Association of Poetry Therapy. Her paintings are on view at Cerulean Arts Gallery (ceruleanarts.com).
