Although a painting is flat, it is sculpture. Up close there are obvious brushstrokes and textures of pigment -as beautiful as any abstract pattern or calligraphy. Standing back the illusion of depth and light and shape is formed. Creating this illusion is my goal in painting. To me, the hardest part of any project is starting. I know the that the work itself is my inspiration and the things in nature I observe are my guide. I focus on plein air landscape painting and figure painting. I paint whenever I can and mainly use oils.
