Artspace Unplugged presents Renzo Ortega and Friends

Art and music collide with a live performance by Renzo Ortega and Friends during Artspace Unplugged. This live music experience and exhibition closing will feature performances by exhibiting artist Renzo Ortega and local musicians set inside an art exhibition with an intimate, listening room vibe. In connection with Ortega’s retrospective show, WAR: New York 2000-2003, the performances will include music Ortega wrote during his time as a young immigrant artist in New York. Guest musicians include John May of Dwarf Star Studios on keyboard and Alberto Vargas on drums.

Doors open at 6pm and the performance begins at 6:30pm. Tickets are $15

El arte y la música se fusionan en una presentación de Renzo Ortega y sus amistades en el Artspace Unplugged. Esta experiencia de música en vivo y la clausura de la exhibición contarán con presentaciones del artista expositor Renzo Ortega y artistas locales de la música en una exhibición de arte con un ambiente íntimo de sala de escucha. En el marco de la muestra retrospectiva de Ortega, WAR: New York 2000-2003, las presentaciones incluirán música que Ortega escribió durante su época como joven artista inmigrante en Nueva York.

About Renzo Ortega //

Renzo Ortega, Peruvian via New York, Carrboro, NC-based artist. His music is a mix of electronics, punk, and cumbia sung in Spanish. Renzo has been performing and recording music for over 30 years, playing both political and love songs in different locations, including museums, art spaces, and D.I.Y. venues in North Carolina, New York, Texas, Chicago, Detroit, Berlin, Lima, and México City. He began his music career in the underground music scene of his native Lima-Perú, performing with the pioneer electronic duo Cuerpos del Deseo (1990-1991). Renzo lived in New York for over sixteen years, where he founded the immigrant band R-Tronika (2003-2016) and the side project punk trio Dias Azules (2015-current); later, in the fall of 2016, he relocated to Carrboro, NC. and his current project is Ancestor Piratas a solo keyboard act. Renzo is an accomplished visual artist who has exhibited in art institutions and museums and created commissioned public art murals. Renzo's live set consists of performing crafted live versions from his music catalog and selected songs that embrace the movement for a world without borders.
