About this Event
The last year has seen several government announcements about the arts, making the time ripe to shape arts education policy moving forwards.
In its Curriculum and Assessment Review, the government announced that the EBacc will be scrapped, opening the door for more children to study the arts. In the recent Schools White Paper, they restated their ambition of a “strong enrichment offer and a revitalised arts curriculum”. The National Centre for Arts and Music Education will launch this autumn.
However, only 7% of school leaders currently feel able to increase the amount of classroom time spent on arts subjects. A crowded curriculum, the exam factory culture, difficult recruiting specialist teachers and lack of funding are the main barriers to fully restoring the status of arts subjects.
Our event will examine how we can work together to bridge the gap between the government’s ambition and the obstacles faced by schools.
