This is the second opportunity to come and hang out with the Taro Patch crew at Fresh Gallery Ōtara alongside the exhibition 'Stories from the Taro Patch'. Meet some of the artists, talanoa, find out about the Taro Patch Creative programmes and create whetu and putiputi to take home.'Stories from the Taro Patch' presents art works created by participants and mentors of the Tala Loto Fale programme. Through group talanoa, a safe vā /space is created for participants to explore the creative arts. Themes of ‘Ofa, love, family, healing, growth and community connection are explored in a diverse range of artforms from digital films, photographs, weaving and printmaking.
Tala Loto Fale is a programme created by Taro Patch Creative, a creative south Auckland-based social services provider that specializes in digital storytelling and the arts through a Pasifika lens.
Tala Loto Fale is a Maori/Moana Pasifika-led movement, which centres a holistic approach inspired by Pasifika forms of storytelling and the use of ancestral knowledge and artefacts for all Tangata Moana throughout Moana Nui a Kiwa and beyond; wanting to create, connect, share, heal and grow in an era of disconnection and uncertainty.
Taro Patch Creative is a family-led initiative of Malosi Pictures, it is conceived by the Mafile’o sisters Vea, Emily and Elizabeth Mafile’o. Together they bring their collective skills in filmmaking, storytelling, tutoring, production design, public programming, arts facilitation and occupational health therapy in the mental health and disabilities sector.
