Artist Talk and Demonstration

Please join us for a creative Saturday afternoon with local artist, Catherine Baum-Newlin. She will give a demonstration and take your questions while we watch her create!
The Artist will share what best illustrates a process of ‘creating’ that she finds helpful.
She says, “Art practice is like practicing my violin, fast writes in writing practice, or showing up to meditate. First, just show up and be present. Next, ‘play’ comes along with elements of curiosity, noticing, and observing. ‘Allowing’ enters and, with that, a deeper ‘you’ shows up. Thoughts, sounds, words, images are present. Good or bad becomes irrelevant. I almost always feel I’m learning.”
In the demo, she will do a ‘play’ page in her notebook, paint some washi papers, make some marks and we’ll see what happens! This is sure to be an experimental, fun, and playful afternoon!
