On September 17th, passengers aboard the Seattle Center Monorail will experience an unprecedented collision of movement, sound, and space as Alice Gosti and MALACARNE presents chapter 2 : psychogeographic drifts — a site-responsive performance featuring four of the most revered figures in contemporary dance: Mark Haim, Tonya Lockyer, Wade Madsen, and Bebe Miller.
These four celebrated artists—each with decades of groundbreaking choreographic and performance work—come together for the first time ever in this rare collaboration. Set entirely aboard Seattle’s legendary Monorail, the performance unfolds between downtown and Seattle Center, offering audiences a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness these icons in motion, suspended above the city.
Original music by the luminous ings (composer, multi-instrumentalist, and performance artist) underscores the event, adding emotional depth and sonic texture to this kinetic voyage.
Choreographed by Alice Gosti || MALACARNE, chapter 2 : psychogeographic drifts continues the group’s commitment to activating non-traditional public spaces and redefining where performance belongs. In alignment with MALACARNE’s ethos, the Monorail becomes not just transportation, but transformation—an unlikely stage where community, architecture, and legacy intersect.
This project is part of Artists at the Center, a collaboration between Seattle Center, Seattle Office of Arts & Culture, Uptown Arts & Culture Coalition and funders Climate Pledge Arena and Seattle Kraken, working to spotlight regional artists while activating the public spaces of the Seattle Center campus. Artists At the Center is a multi-year collaboration between Seattle Office of Arts & Culture and Seattle Center, with support from Uptown Arts & Culture Coalition and the communities adjacent to Seattle Center campus. The project is made possible by a 10-year grant from Climate Pledge Arena and Seattle Kraken.
Join us as we introduce emerging and established artists and celebrate their talent on a newly revitalized Seattle Center campus. Artists are given a performance opportunity, allowing them to connect with new audiences, display their talents and advance their careers. Visitors to campus and the surrounding neighborhood benefit from surprising and delightful pop-up performances throughout the year. Each year, artists are selected with an equity and social justice lens, ensuring equitable representation for underserved and emerging artists. Artistic genres include music, dance, theater, demonstrations, and multi-disciplinary work.
