About this Event
Artistes Hangout is a special breakout event of The Other Order exhibition that brings together Lagos-based creatives for an evening of dialogue, reflection, and collective exchange. Designed as both a gathering and a creative laboratory, the Hangout invites visual artists, dancers, musicians, photographers, writers, performers, and culture workers to engage directly with the themes of the exhibition displacement, memory, survival, and the search for belonging.
Dance Class: The politics of Resistance is a dance session led by renowned choreographer enechukwu uche who will be taking participants on a journey of resistance through dance and movement. (3pm - 5pm)
Film screen: Artist and Architect Dele adeyemo shows his film titled “Wey dey move”. Wey dey move is a Nigerian Pidgin term said to describe the way things constantly shift, as different bodies intersect and circulate, drawing the outlines of places in a complex choreography. While the process of urbanisation in West Africa rapidly unfolds, sand, people, waters and ecologies are in constant flux along the Nigerian coast. The screening ends with a Q and A with Dele and Obiajulu Ozegbe (5pm - 6:30pm)
The Politics of Land: Talented Musician Lawrence simeon widely known as simphony takes us on a 90 Minutes sonic experience with obiajulu ozegbe. Simphony who has a first hand experience of this demolition will be sharing his experience through the sounds from his guitar.
This event is open to artists and art enthusiasts.
BIOS:
Dele Adeyemo PHD is an artist and architect whose practice sits at the intersection of space, memory, and social inquiry. Through research-driven installations, drawings, and architectural thinking, he explores themes of belonging, urban identity, and the politics of place, often engaging communities and everyday materials to question how environments are shaped, designed, claimed, and remembered.
Enechukwu Uche is a Nigerian interdisciplinary performance artist, choreographer, creative director, actor, dancer, and community organizer whose work bridges socially-engaged art, movement, and cultural expression. Known for dynamic performances and collaborative projects, Uche uses creativity to explore identity, society, and transformation while curating spaces for artistic connection and impact. 
Lawrence Simeon is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, music director, and creative artist based in Lagos who uses music to paint sonic pictures in the minds of his listeners.
Obiajulu Ozegbe is a dancer, movement artist and community organizer who is interested in using dance and movement as a tool for problem solving. His interesting approach to dance has earned him features on BBC World, Aljazeera, Euro News and other main stream media. He received the Prince Claus seed award in 2021 and has performed and given classes in europe, asia, america and various parts of africa.
