Join us for an artist talk with 2025 Outwin Portrait Competition finalist Rupy Tut.
About this Event

This gallery talk will focus on Rupy Tut's . Trained in eighteenth-century traditional Indian painting, the artist grinds her own pigments, burnishes paper and uses handmade brushes. Tut’s labor-intensive practice is on display with each delicately painted leaf, eye, or whirlpool. Taína Caragol, Senior Curator of Painting and Sculpture, will moderate the conversation.

Portrait of a Woman is on view in . The National Portrait Gallery’s triennial Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition celebrates excellence in the art of portraiture. Every three years, artists living and working in the United States are invited by the museum to submit one of their recent portraits to a panel of experts. The selected artworks reflect the compelling and diverse approaches contemporary artists are using to convey their personal and collective stories through portraiture.
