About this Event
During the month of May Brandy Agun will be showing her new work in "Connections". She is exploring the connection between space, animals and the human viewers. She will be coming by to talk about her work, if you enjoy her work or want to learn more now is the perfect time!
Brandy has been studying art formally since graduating college although she always drew as a kid. Over this time she spent 10 years at the Gage Academy of Art in Seattle, WA focusing primarily on the figure. There she developed skills painting in pastel and drawing. To deepen her skills Brandy studied classical drawing and oil painting for 3 years at Georgetown Atelier in Seattle, WA graduating in 2012. During that same time she studied anatomy and ecorche at the Seattle Sculpture Atelier. In 2013 Brandy began teaching traditional oil painting out of her studio in Snohomish, Wa and has taught classes at the Northwest Art Center, Georgetown Atelier, Gage Academy of Art and Kirkland Art Center all located in Washington. In 2014, Brandy moved her studio into her home.
Since graduating she has painted steadily developing her unique view and has exhibited around the Pacific Northwest earning three first place awards. Ever intrigued with figures she depicts scenes expressing their relationship to an environment and lately often paints the environment by itself. Additionally she enjoys still life where objects become characters as though in a play. There is usually a touch of narrative in her work.
"I contemplate my recent work and recognize that I have slowly drifted from the more realistic images I used to paint to a broader depiction of the world. There was a time I thought I would merrily march in the direction of the Renaissance masters drawing the figure rigorously and honing my skills as a figure painter. While this subject still intrigues me I found myself growing increasingly attentive to the spaces people occupied, particularly their common, familiar everyday surroundings. I began to understand that what truly interested me in painting was the color, the shapes, the light and the design. This discovery led me to paint interior and exterior spaces with or without figures and still lifes... It is the abstraction of things that I find fascinating and the root of my vision...
All thrill seeking and adventure aside my objective ultimately is to create emotional paintings balancing the content with the design elements I find most pleasing in order to connect with the viewer and our common humanity. Painting for me is a conversation. And I wish to speak my visual voice and hopefully my work resonates with people." -Brandy Agun
The artist talk starts at 1pm, chairs and light refreshments will be available. All ages welcome.
