Join the UMFA for an artist talk and conversation with Russel Albert Daniels, whose work is featured in "Shaping Landscape: 150 Years of Photography in Utah."
Russel Albert Daniels’ work stands in the cross current of art, reportage, and decolonization. Using photographs and storytelling, Russel aims to bring visibility to Native American and underserved communities. His projects explore identity, sense of place, and history to illuminate the aftermath of manifest destiny. Russel’s stories about Bears Ears, Standing Rock, Two Spirit, MMIW, and the hidden legacy of colonial era Indigenous enslavement and captivity in the Southwest have helped to educate, inform, and prompt conversation about the historical narrative.
Russel lives in Salt Lake City, Utah. He works throughout Utah, the Mountain West, Southwest, and the Great Basin.
