This Artist Talk is part of the Visting Artist series hosted by Rutgers University-Newark's Fine Art Program, Department of Arts, Culture and Media, (ACM) and SHINE Portrait Studio @ Express Newark. The Visiting Artist series connects students, staff, faculty, and the greater Newark community in the spirit of co-learning and co-creation, with insight into contemporary art practices, the creative process, and the evolving art landscape.

Hadieh Shafie, is an interdisciplinary Iranian American visual artist based in USA. Her work collapses the space between, drawing, painting and sculpture and is at once process-oriented and overwhelming in its intricacy. Hadieh is known for incorporating hand written Farsi text into works that are at the same time paintings, sculptures, poems, books, and installations. Her work is both meditative and obsessive, intricate and expansive while rooted in memories and harmonies that connect to meditative practices and ritual center to her as an Iranian American and as a women. Hadieh’s work resides in collections of the British Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Museum, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and in exhibits from Virginia to Dubai to Australia.
